How to Answer the Sponsorship Question on LinkedIn and Indeed
Decide your sponsorship answer once, in your profile, and reuse it consistently. Inconsistent answers hurt more than a single honest answer. This page gives wording for the US, UK and Canada, and explains why hiding sponsorship usually backfires at the offer stage.
Work authorisation information on this page is general information only. It is not legal or immigration advice. Check your own visa status with an official source or adviser.
The 3 answers, word for word
Use one of these, exactly, and reuse it everywhere: "Yes, I require sponsorship", "No, I do not require sponsorship", or a status-specific answer such as "I am on F-1 OPT" or "I hold a PGWP" — only if that is true for you.
US: H-1B and F-1 OPT wording
For the US, state whether you require H-1B sponsorship, or that you are on F-1 OPT, in the same words on LinkedIn and Indeed. Do not say "no" on one platform and "yes" on another.
UK: Skilled Worker and Right to Work wording
For the UK, use Right to Work wording: "I have the right to work in the UK", "I require Skilled Worker sponsorship", or "EU Settled Status" — only if true. Use "CV", not "resume", where the job asks for a CV.
Canada: PGWP and PR wording
For Canada, state PGWP or permanent residence status honestly. Do not claim a status you do not hold, and do not leave the field blank if the form requires an answer.
What not to write
Do not write "negotiable" for sponsorship, do not hide it in a cover note, and do not promise a status change you cannot control.
How to keep it consistent across LinkedIn and Indeed
Set the answer in your profile once, copy it to both platforms, and check it before every batch. ApplyAI Pro can reuse a decided answer on screening questions — it cannot decide your status for you.
Situation → answer → what it signals
| Situation | Answer to use | What it signals |
|---|---|---|
| You require sponsorship | Yes, I require sponsorship | Honest, filterable by employers who sponsor |
| You do not require sponsorship | No, I do not require sponsorship | No visa step for the employer |
| You are on OPT / PGWP / Skilled Worker route | State your current status, exactly | Clear timeline, no surprise later |
Honest gap
ApplyAI Pro does NOT find sponsor-friendly employers and does NOT build a sponsor, OPT or PGWP employer list. It helps you answer consistently and apply faster on LinkedIn Easy Apply and Indeed Direct Apply only.

Frequently asked questions
Should I hide sponsorship to get more replies?
Hiding it may get more first replies, but it usually fails at the offer stage and wastes both sides' time.
What if my status changes mid-search?
Update your profile answer everywhere at once, and do not keep sending the old answer.
Does Indeed ask it differently from LinkedIn?
The wording differs by employer, but your answer should not. Use the same status on both.
What about Wellfound?
Wellfound startups vary in sponsorship practice. Use the same honest answer, and check the startup's own hiring information.
